A Contrast

Whilst the deprived shiver in cold
I enjoy a sip of hot Nescafe Gold.
When the destitute die out of starvation
I have sumptuous food with celebration.
While the poor are burnt in scorching heat,
I enjoy the chilling A.C. – a royal treat!
Yet I consider myself displeased?
Living lavishly yet never appeased!

The poor have tattered clothes to wear
I keep buying dresses anytime, anywhere.
The tramp grabs a piece of bread from the bin
For dieting, I waste part of a pizza and grin.
The homeless don’t have slippers for the feet.
I have seasonal shoes, hence no deficit.
Yet I claim to be unlucky and wretched.
Awful even with comforts outstretched.

How conceited I am! Shame on me!
What for is then this humanity?
If not to help others unconditionally,
If not using altruism rationally,
We should have the urge to share,
We should develop the impulse to care.
Who will look after mankind if not us?
We must lend a hand to the helpless mass.
